Heroic Wordles

Today we had a productive computer session on the Wordle programme in our ICT suite.  Using our brainstormed words that describe heroes and heroines, we created really effective word displays.

Kayley shares her water filter inquiry

Kayley filtered that dirty water to clean!  We couldn't believe our eyes.  What a great filter!

Sophia shared her inquiry focusing on how a candle needs oxygen to burn.  If you put a jar over a candle surrounded by water, the water gets sucked up and the flame goes out.
Very interesting, Sophia.

Dom and Sariah show the class how different colours mixed together create new colours.

Riley shares his poster about the floating ping pong balls :).

Boston looked at how a ping pong ball can float.  The changes in air pressure pushing against each other cause the ball to float in the air stream of a hair dryer.

 Boston gives us a demo with the his helper, Daniel.

Damien shares with us his poster showing the changing states of water.

Manny changed the colour of a foam ball from white to multi-coloured. 

Caleb shared his poster showing how crystals are formed.

Lily shares her poster showing her inquiry into what happens to lollies frozen in water.   They looked great frozen in ice but didn't taste so great after they had defrosted!  A wee bit soggy...

Room 15 are composers!


This term our art focus has been music.
We learnt how to play 'Twinkle twinkle little star'.  
Room 15's next challenge was experimenting with composing their own little tunes on the glockenspiels.
Great effort everyone!  
Watch out for these budding musicians in the future!

Daniel shares his poster explaining how to change a snow pea into one with roots.

Jaime shows us how to make a lava lamp.
She used coloured water,  oil and salt.
The oil sits on top of the water.  When salt is poured in, it drags oil to the bottle of the glass.  When the salt dissolves, the oil rises back up to the top in a bubble.  Cool!

Kate showed us how isopropyl alcohol makes the ink of a vivid marker spread out to give a tie-dyed effect on a t-shirt.
Very styly!

Sharing Change Inquiry projects

Daniel changed a pea.
He added water and sunlight to help a snow pea grow roots.
Amy shared how she changed liquid orange juice into a solid (ice).  During the day it then turned back into a liquid.
This showed us changing states of matter.
Liquid-solid-liquid.
They are temporary changes.
 


Jack showed us how to suck a hard-boiled egg into a bottle!  
By lighting a piece of paper and dropping it into a bottle, the heat changed the air pressure in the bottle and it created a vacuum and sucked the egg into the bottle.
It was so cool!


Quin chose an experiment showing how water can transfer from one glass into another.  
The sticky molecules of water  climbed up one side of a paper towel and then gravity pulled the water down the other side of the paper towel until the water was evenly distributed between both glasses.
In the beginning only one glass was filled half way with water.
 .

Hayley showed us how indicator shows the pH level of a liquid.  By adding lemon juice into water the indicator turned yellow(acid).  By adding washing powder the water turned a bright pink(alkaline).  Then after adding more lemon juice, the water turned yellow again.
 It was very interesting and fun watching the water turn yellow then pink, yellow then pink, yellow then pink
.....


Mathias showed us how solids can turn to liquid by adding heat.  Eg: Chocolate melts,  butter melts.
Liquid can also change to a solid by adding heat again.  Eg: Cooking pikelet mixture.  Yum!

Riley demonstrated how moving air can make a ping pong ball float.
This is caused by low and high air pressures pushing against each other.
